Thank you notes are sent after every step in the process. Email is the standard these days as the process is accelerated and there is not enough time for snail mail. Phone call, text and social media thank you’s should be avoided.
It never ceases to amaze us that we actually have to remind candidates to send one. Not only do they forget to send one, but they fail to get the hiring authorities email address so they can send one. If it’s phone interview you ask for one. If it’s a face-to-face interview you ask for a business card.
Thank you notes should be simple and concise. It should remind the interviewer who you are and convey your interest level in the next step or job. You may want to call attention to something specific that happened during the interview to personalize it. Another idea is to include a professional photo of yourself to remind the interviewer who you are.

Dear Mr./Ms Last Name,
I sincerely enjoyed meeting with you today and learning more about the Position at Employer.
Our conversation confirms my interested in moving forward in the process for being part of your sales team. I was particularly pleased to hear about your management style as I feel it will match up very well with my skills and ability to manage a territory. I feel confident that my experience in the field would enable me to fill the job requirements effectively.
