Psychometrics is the field of study concerned with the theory and technique of psychological measurements which includes the measurement of knowledge, abilities, attitudes, personality traits, and educational measurement . The field is primarily concerned with the construction and validation of measurement instruments such as questionnaires, tests, and personality assessments.
Some companies subscribe to testing such as Gallup and Caliper as part of their selection process. These test can be administered by someone over the phone or taken online. In addition there is usually an intelligence component to the test. We have even known some companies to put a Psychologist on the phone to talk to you. They are usually administered during the middle to final stages of the interview process.
Our best suggestions for taking these test are as follows:
- Take the test when you are rested
- Take it in a place where you can eliminate all distractions
- When asked questions that involve a rating scale do not answer in the middle of the scale i.e your feeling on a scale of 1-5 ( choose 1 or 5) which ever you feel the strongest toward.
- These tests ask you the same questions in different ways. They have a liar factor built in them, so don’t try to game the test
Some companies use this test to eliminate candidates and others use it as a tool for management. The latter being what will this candidate need to be successful and how will they need to managed.
